Prep time: 20 minutes Cooking time: 40 minutes
200g self raising flour
1 heaped tsp baking powder
30g drinking chocolate or Cocoa
100ml date syrup
Zest ˝ orange
Juice 1 orange
85 ml sunflower oil
Preheat oven at 175C/Gas Mark 4/350F and grease a 20 cm/8”cake tin
Sieve all dried ingredients and stir. Add Zest.
Measure 100ml date syrup, add orange juice in jug, add water to make up to 225ml. Add oil and stir all the
liquids.Add liquid to dry ingredients, bit by bit, stirring
thoroughly. Beat until smooth.
Pour mixture into tin, put in preheated oven for 40mins or until firm but springy to the touch.
Leave cake in tin until cool.
